Returns a number after adding two numbers together

Syntax:

ADD(numberOne, numberTwo)

ADD adds numberTwo to numberOne returning the result.

Application:

Grocery Shopping Budget

Scenario: A family is at the grocery store, and they want to keep track of their spending as they put items in their cart to ensure they stay within their budget of $100.

The ADD Function: The function here is to sum up the cost of all the items purchased.

Inputs: The inputs are the individual prices of each item.

Output: The output is the running total of the cost of all the items in the cart.

Table:

Item

Cost

Running Total

A

$3.50
2

$10.55
4
Bag of Apples

$28.54
6
Bag of Salad
$3.75
$32.29
7
Block of Cheese
$6.50
$38.79

Explanation:

  • The "ADD" function is applied at each step.
  • Step 1: The initial running total is $0. We add the cost of the loaf of bread ($3.50) to it.
  • Step 2: We take the current running total ($3.50) and add the cost of the gallon of milk ($4.25) to get the new total of $7.75.
  • Step 3: We take the current running total ($7.75) and add the cost of the dozen eggs ($2.80) to get the new total of $10.55.
  • This process continues for every item added to the cart.

In this example, the "ADD" function is continuously used to update the total cost, allowing the family to monitor their spending and make sure they don't exceed their budget. This is a simple but powerful real-world application of a fundamental mathematical operation.
